## [74.03] A SEARCH FOR X-RAY SUBSTRUCTURE IN COOLING FLOWS

Heather S. Thompson (University of Arizona), Andrea Prestwich (SAO)

Using data in the ROSAT HRI archive, we carried out a search for small-scale X-ray substructure in six cooling flow clusters (Abell 478, Abell 2029, Abell 2597, Cygnus A, Ophiuchus, and M87). Our primary scientific goal was to detect enhancements in the X-ray emission which might be indicative of cool, high-density thermal instabilities in the cooling gas. The fluctuations in most of the clusters is consistent with Poissonian noise. One cluster, M87, showed some evidence for emission enhancements at the 3$\sigma$ level. Further observations are required to demonstrate the reality of these enhancements.
