The NSF Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program seeks to encourage talented science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers.
The biennial AAS Department Chairs Meeting was held in Chicago on Saturday, 3 November 2012, with about 35 chairs attending from around the nation. The meeting was sponsored by the AAS and organized by Jerry Sellwood (Rutgers) and David Kieda (Utah), with assistance from Jeri Cochran (U. Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). AAS President David Helfand and Executive Officer Kevin Marvel represented the Society.
Spark is the AAS Education Newsletter. It consists primarily of original articles about or related to the education programs and activities of the American Astronomical Society and its members.

Astronomy Education Review (AER), the online journal of astronomy and space-science education published by the American Astronomical Society (AAS), celebrated 10 years of promoting science literacy last week.
American Astronomical Society Supports the Teaching of Evolution in United States Science Classes and states that "Intelligent Design” is non-Scientific and should not be Taught to the Nation’s Children.
SPARK publishes original articles on astronomy education about or related to the education programs and activities of the American Astronomical Society and its members. Reading previous issues will give you an idea of the types of articles that appear in the Newsletter. Opinion pieces, reviews, letters to the editor, newsworthy items are all welcome, subject to the guidelines below.
